Little Emma

Earlier today an injured young eland calf was brought to us after it had been treated by a veterinarian.  We were told that the young calf had been found on a nearby farm with an injured leg.  After being treated twice by a local vet, the calf’s owner realised that there were serious problems.  The leg injury was getting worse and it was evidently clear that unless the animal received proper veterinary care, she will not be able to grow into adulthood as eland do need their hind legs.  The calf was surrendered to SanWild and Dr. Kerneels van der Merwe has taken over the treatment of the animal.  This afternoon the injured was flushed out and we now have her on anti-biotics and we hope and trust that with regular physiotherapy she will be able to regain the use of her leg.
