Baby vervet attacked by poacher’s dog

Late yesterday afternoon a very badly injured vervet monkey was brought in by a local farmer that informed us that his farm manager in a follow-up operation against bush meat poachers, had found a very badly injured vervet monkey.  From the tracks it appeared as if the little vervet was attacked by one of the poachers’ dogs.  The monkey was in pretty bad condition and we did not expect it to survive.  As our vet was away for the weekend we had no other option, but to stitch up the monkey as best we could.  We named him Poacher and will monitor him closely for any possible infections.  When the vet is back on Monday he will have a full check up.
