When our rescued elephants were captured to be relocated to SanWild in November 2006 some of the elephants, including the two large bulls named Bukisa and Umfomo were collared so that we could track the animals. It has now been just over 6 years and the tracking collars are no longer working. The bulls have grown quite a bit and the collars will eventually become too tight around their necks. It has now become necessary to dart the elephants in order to remove the collars.
Bukisa was darted earlier today by Dr. Dewaldt Keet and Andre Grobler and his collar was removed. There is no longer a need for a collar and we are sure Bukisa is happy to be rid of the collar for good.
